Ummm... alien abduction?

Well, I don't quite know how that happened.
I didn't think anybody even read this, but Momz and the Sis are all up in my face like "Blog, beeyatch!"
Yes M'ams...

I have in fact been taking pics every day, so I haven't completely fallen off the wagon.

Thursday 7 January
I finally unpacked from my little trip to New York, only a week after I got back, not too shabby.
I had bought this snowglobe for my Mum, but on my way to post it to her from NY (can't take them on the plane) it plummeted to it's untimely demise from my mittened hands.
BIG :(
But I kept it anyways and ran all over town to find her another one before the post office closed.

Friday 8 January
This is the view out of my bathroom window, I thought the sky looked particularly blue and gorgeous that afternoon, especially with the rusty colour of the trees against it. I'm pretty sure this was near sunset and it was a cloudless day- typical California sighhh

Saturday 9 January
I was too buggered after work that day to take any kind of important picture, so this is a few of my necklaces. They are pretty much all animals- there is a bat, octopus, dinosaurs, an eagle and a swallow. And brass knuckles haha.

Sunday 10 January
Day off!
Spent on the couch, in jammies and hoodie and... fancy dangly earrings?
That's how I do
:)

Monday 11 January

Today I took a different route home, down a back street. I normally just zip along the main road that runs along side my apartment block, but there was smelly roadworks so I went the back way. I have driven and walked down that road many times, but as I cruised by this afternoon, all the colours were popping out at me from every which way.
So I parked at my place, walked back as the afternoon light was fading and got some nice shots of the prettyful flora that abounds on Arboleda Rd.

These fantastic red berries were growing on the side of an old RV parked in the yard, they were like iiiiiiity bitty tomatoes!

Meet Skittles

Her name is ironic, because skittles are small, colourful and smooth and she is none of those things.
She was named Clio for a while, after my favourite character in one of my favourite movies- Queen Latifah's character in Set It Off.

Because they are both big, black and beautiful with a fair bit of attitude :)

But her current tag came about as an evolution from Kitty to Kittles then onto Skittles.

So anyway, that was her today in her usual pose pigging out on delicious Whiskas Chicken and something-or-other.

Hot and Cold

I wish this weather would make up it's mind, seriously!
Blazing hot today on the way to work. I walked, to get some much-needed exercise and for the rest of the day I was "schvitzing like a pudding at a picnic" as they say.
Now tonight it's a chilly bastard!

I resolve not to turn this blog into a sooky whingefest though. I shant!

Today's photo is from the loverly rose garden in the parking lot of my apartment building. The blooms were looking particularly pretty today :)

Write off.

Today started out alright. Quiet, unassuming. It was the second day of my weekend, so that meant another sleep-in of course. Snoozed til early afternoon, then uploaded some of the photos I took in NY onto Facebook, from the comfort of my bed.
Then I decided to venture downtown and get the pics of the gorgeous Christmas lights that decorate every lightpost on State St and the huge Christmas tree that sits right in the middle of the road.
There's also a real estate agency that went all-out with their lights, at the top of State St. I thought I would hop off the bus there, get some pics and then walk the rest of the way.
This would have been a great success- if I had remembered to bring my camera.
After dumping the contents of my entire bag onto the sidewalk and rummaging through it like a crazy person, I got back on the bus to get my camera from home.
If I was in a comic strip, I would have had a bloody great big storm cloud over my head with lightning bolts coming out of it.

But wait, there's more!

After retrieving my wayward camera and driving back downtown, I discovered that all the lights had been taken down! The whole shamozzle was for nothing! Nada! Zip! Somebody hand me than gun!
And then, to add insult to injury, I did a spot of shopping at Old Navy and tried on a bunch of jeans in what I thought were my size. Apparently I am no longer that size :(
Nothing like trying to squeeze ones fat arse into jeans then wrestling them on the ground trying to get them off to really put a cherry on that turd sundae.

Buuut, I did spy a motel on the way home that still had their lights up, so I got some nice piccies there. All was not lost.

All dressed up and .... ah, bugger it.

Today was my day off (well, it's Sunday- it should be everyone's day off!).
So I slept til 2pm and ate ice cream for breakfast.
I actually do this any day of the week, it's not a special thing reserved for non-work days or anything like that.
So after my slightly disappointing breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea a la mode, I fed the cat and did some more work on my NY scrapbook.
Then all of a sudden it was time to go out to dinner!
Tonight I debuted these rad pink tights (stockings?), which I think look rather spiffing with my thrift store boots.
I was going to go downtown after dinner and take some pics of the pretty lights on State St, but the call of my warm abode and Return Of The King on tv was too enticing.

Maybe tomorrow...

Papers. PAPERS!

Please have your papers ready and in order people!
Step to the front of the line...

*** This post counts as Saturday January 2nd!***

I don't know why, but every time I go somewhere new I keep little scraps of paper that I collect on the trip. Receipts, ticket stubs and pretty much anything that has the name of the city I visited on it.
I had a bunch from my trip to New York last year, and I got a TON (not really) on this visit, so I started putting them in a regular A4 wirebound sketchbook. I think it would be weird to go all-out on a proper scrapbook for just papers and no photos, so I was just going to stick them in and that's that.
Buuuuut... it looks so naked!
So out comes the stickers, coloured pens, glitter glue and stamps.
Not so simple anymore.

The super-cute owl notebook is A5 size and fits perfectly into my bag, so it comes with me pretty much everywhere and it accompanied me all over NYC last week.

yay owls!!!

So, this is 2010...?

A few weeks ago I decided that this year I was going to do the 365 day project thingy, which is basically just taking a picture every day for a year.
I don't want to imply that my day to day life is in any way interesting enough to warrant daily photos of the happenings in it. Not by a long shot!
This is going to be a big year, a few important things will be going down and I think there should be pictorial evidence.
But seeing as I am quite the recluse, you will most likely be seeing a number of pictures of things in and within a very short distance of my apartment. Like todays photo! This gorgeous ceramic owl was waiting for me at thrift store down the road, his face is just so precious and strange.
